May 24th Fishing Report

Fishing is starting to pick up steam on the beaches.

The snook are in their traditional pre-spawn staging areas, with Howard Park, and Anclote island being the prime places to target in North Pinellas/Pasco. Live grunts and pinfish are what they have been preferring as of late.

Tarpon have shown up in good numbers, and can be seen rolling off the beaches from sunrise till about 8:30 or so. They have been very picky in their feeding lately, and even though I had baits in front of 10 fish or so, the only jump I got was on a live pass crab under a balloon off Howard Park.
Reports from Anclote island and Honeymoon Island have reported fish being seen, with only a few being caught. Expect the action to get better as the season progresses, peaking in late June.

Redfish have been scattered with some reports from my friend Drew reporting them in mixed sand and grass areas off Anclote and 3 rooker bar. Pinfish and shrimp have been the go to baits.

Sharks have been everywhere this year, and there have been good reports of big bulls and hammerheads cruising just off the beaches.
